From the Desk of the Supervisor - 2025 Town Budget

Wheatland Municipal Building

Dear Wheatland Residents.

The 2025 Wheatland Town Budget was adopted following a Public Hearing in December. The Highlights of the Budget process and the Adopted Budget are posted separately on the Town of Wheatland website.

As many of you are aware, the Town experienced a ~ $30 million dollar Assessed Property Value loss for the 2024/2025 assessment cycle.

Significant efforts were required to reduce the impact on the taxpayers. Largely due to these efforts, the Town adopted a budget for 2025 that reduces both the Town wide (TW) and Town outside of Village (TOV), tax rates for the 2025 fiscal year. Great care was given to ensure that no services were impacted.

The new rates and previous year comparisons are as follows,

Tax Base 2025 2024 2023

Townwide (TW) $4.93 $4.98 $6.06

Town outside Village (TOV) $5.56 $5.61 $6.95

While Town tax rates are not the only component of your tax bill, they are an important factor in determining your Town taxes relative to the value of your property.

The tax rate is calculated on a $1,000 ratio of your assessed property value.

For example, if you own a home with an Assessed Value of $100,000, your Town tax bill will be calculated as follows.

($100,000 home value / $1,000) X (tax rate)

Using the 2025 Town projected rates, the taxpayer bill will calculate as follows:

TW - ($100,000/1,000) X ($4.93) = $493 TW tax

TOV - ($100,000/1,000) X ($5.56) = $556 TOV tax

The Combined Town and County Property Tax Bill also includes the taxes for Monroe County as well as Special Districts, including the Fire Districts. They determine their tax levies independently from the Town.

Respectfully.

Jim Kirch, Town Supervisor
